Beta Testing Cartwheel AI Text-to-Animation
September 15, 2024Snapchat’s Game Changing Move in AI Video and Portrait Creation
AI video generation is quickly evolving, and it’s wild to see how seamlessly video-to-video AI creation is integrating into our everyday apps.
I just watched a Snapchat keynote, and it hit me, it’s time to make some serious moves in the AI game, especially when it comes to video generation. Now, you can literally just type a few prompts directly in the Snapchat app, and boom, you’ve got yourself a cool AI-generated video, right there.
Snapchat's AI features go even further with portrait creation, too. All it takes is one photo, and the app generates a series of custom portraits for you.
Imagine that: a whole bunch of unique AI-driven snapshots, all from a single image. You don’t even need fancy cameras or equipment, your phone is more than enough.
This makes me wonder, why would you still need external services, like those cloud-based platforms or websites like Runway, LTX Studio, MidJourney or other dedicated AI tools, when Snapchat’s app can handle the whole process?
From Ideation to Creation to Sharing
Think about it: Snapchat’s new AI tools allow you to come up with ideas, generate content, edit it, and post it, all without leaving the app.
Right now, most people still use a laptop to use external site to generate AI content, then transfer it to their phone or post it directly to social media. But with Snapchat’s AI, everything can happen in one place. No need to jump between platforms or worry about complicated software. It simplifies everything, from ideation to creation to sharing, and that’s exactly what people are looking for.
I recently discussed some other exciting AI solutions in a completely different space: the 3D animation industry. It’s interesting to see how text-to-3D animation is developing, where you can write a prompt to generate 3D animation and motion capture data possibly eliminating the need for traditional motion capture suits.
This technology is still emerging, and while it's highly specialized, it raises a key question: If people can create 3D animations through prompt engineering, do they really need those suits anymore?
There’s definitely a crossover here between industries. While some may argue that simplified versions of these tools are enough, I believe that if motion capture AI becomes highly accurate and precise, it could significantly disrupt traditional 3D animation tools and processes.
This space is worth watching as it continues to evolve, and it will be fascinating to see how the entertainment and 3D animation industries adapt. You can read more about these innovations here.
This shift really makes me think about how things will evolve by 2025. As a product designer, I’m stoked that technology is becoming so much more accessible. The fact that you can handle everything, from imagination to creation on your phone is a game-changer. But it also raises some questions:
What happens to all these AI platforms out there? Are they going to survive 2024 if companies like Snapchat are offering faster, better, and possibly free alternatives? Will there even be a need for those other services?
People are already talking about an “AI bubble.” And while we’re definitely living in one, the real question is: will this bubble burst? It seems like it might be happening soon , and it’s something worth keeping an eye on. The future of AI tools, especially in everyday apps, is about to get really interesting.
